Hey Diddle Diddle . . .

Hey, diddle, diddle,
The Cat and the Fiddle,

The Cow jumped over the Moon.
The little Dog laughed to see such fun,

And the Dish ran away with the Spoon.

I scanned these images from another of my antiquarian children's books: 'The Hey Diddle Diddle Picture Book by R. Caldecott' published in London by Frederick Warne and Co., Ltd. (the same company that published all of the Beatrix Potter books).

I absolutely love the 19th century illustrations by Ralph Caldecott. Click any picture to enlarge.

Tea or Wine left this comment on my earlier post about this wonderful artist: "These are lovely illustrations from a simpler time in children's literature. The watercolors are soothing and soft. Today, Caldecott lives on as each year an American picture book is awarded the Caldecott Medal for excellence in its illustrations."

Thanks for stopping by. Have a great day. ♥Rosemary

A wonderful short film . . .

The three following images are stills from a very short film that never ceases to amaze me. It is absolutely magical ... in every way. How does this artist do these special effects as she turns the pages of her book? There is obviously a camera in the lamp that assists her in superimposing the black and white book images with moving colored cutouts that can go behind, over, under, and off the page. Please watch ... you will be so happy you did.

PS...Use your Back Button to return to my blog at the end of the film.

Watch the short film.

I knew you would like it! Aren't you glad I keep finding such wonderful things? ♥Rosemary

Vampire Killing Kit circa 1800 brings $14,850 . . .

A complete and authentic vampire killing kit, circa 1800 and housed in a walnut case, sold for $14,850.

Natchez, Mississippi ~ A complete and authentic vampire killing kit — made around 1800 and complete with stakes, mirrors, a gun with silver bullets, crosses, a Bible, holy water, candles and even garlic, all housed in a American walnut case with a carved cross on top — attained $14,850 in the Jimmy Pippen estate sale by Stevens October 3–4, 2008 in the new Natchez Convention Center.

The sale comprised the contents of Pippen's stores (Pippen Antiques and Pippen Interiors), items from his personal residence (which he considered a perfect creation and called "Paradise"), the contents of another home (a three-story, 1850s townhouse called "The Orchard" that he restored with fine appointments and rented out) along with other treasures from several warehouses.

Hmmm. I wonder if this kit would work on werewolves too?

March 1st | Lion or Lamb? . . .

Today is the first of March and I can't decide if it has come to my area like a Lion or a Lamb. It is overcast and cold with a few snowflakes beginning to fall as a major snow storm heads this way by evening. I could wake up to a foot of snow on Monday morning so this is probably the calm before the storm. Can you believe it? Yesterday was beautiful with cloudless blue skies. What a difference a day makes!

I am going to pick Lion because the old saying is that if March comes in like a LION it will go out like a LAMB. We will see if I made the right call at the end of the month.

How did March arrive at your house?

Memory is the Power to Gather Roses in Winter . . .

It is a beautiful sunny day here with spring in the air even though it's cold. I won't gloat over my nice weather because I know many areas are still deep with snow. This post is dedicated to them. Enjoy your Saturday no matter what the thermometer says. ♥Rosemary

I don't usually put unrelated links in my posts but today I will. I think you will enjoy the wonderful site below with alphabetical photos of baby animals. It's very entertaining and educational too. I love the three infant hedgehogs.
