Lady Liberty in a Folk Art Painting

Both photos and a wonderful article about our American flag found in link below. More delightful folk art and antique flag photos as well as a photo of the event (depicted in a painting) that inspired The Star Spangled Banner by Francis Scott Key. Perfect reading today, July 4, 2021.

Read the article & enjoy the Fourth of July πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ

Memorial Day Flags near My Cottage

There was a ceremony this morning at the little park around the corner but I missed it. I drove by later to see all the flags blowing in the wind to honor our fallen heroes. By afternoon, the sky was blue, filled with white fluffy clouds. Still on the chilly side but at least there was no rain. HAPPY  MEMORIAL  DAY. xo

Memorial Day at My Cottage

I posted this Pottery Barn ad on Memorial Day 2012. I still love it and this porch party is the perfect place to celebrate family and friends to remember our fallen soldiers.

I photographed this pool at a gilded age mansion in Bernardsville several weeks ago. I added the text to remind you to use your sunscreen. I also posted this on Instagram this week.

My nasturtium seeds are getting their second set of leaves.

Are you going to any Memorial Day parades today?

I hope you get a good place to see it. This dog found a great spot to see the marching bands.

Cake with Flag Icing

I love this cake! The next holiday with a flag theme is Memorial Day in September. That will give you a little over a month to figure out how to do this. The cake stand makes it look like a straw hat decorated like a flag. via

Flags All Over Town for Veterans Day

Madison, NJ
Veterans Day 2017

Every lamp post has a flag. It looks deserted but the town folk were gathering for a parade. My photos. The trees are bare and today was our first really cold day but the sky was blue and the sun was out. Later in the day, it warmed up a bit. It was a lovely Saturday to be out and about. xo

Framed 48 Star American Flag

In 1912, two stars were added, representing Arizona and New Mexico, bringing the total number of stars on the American flag to 48, arranged in 6 rows of 8 stars each. There were thirteen stripes representing the thirteen original colonies. This flag flew from 4 July, 1912, to 3 July, 1949.

Hope you are having a great Memorial Day!

Southern Plantation Porch

Can you even imagine a better porch? I love the high ceiling with architectural interest. The rockers appear to be looking out on the water too. How nice! Charleston or Savannah? Have a great weekend. via

Flags Over Fifth Avenue July 4, 1916

The Fourth of July, 1916. The Greatest Display of the American Flag Ever Seen in New York. This painting was inspired by the climax of the Preparedness Parade in May of that year. It must have been a wonderful sight to behold. Thankfully, we have this world-famous painting to document the historic World War I parade down Fifth Avenue. It's the 100-year anniversary of this great painting.

Enjoy your fireworks tonight!

Patriotic Porch

This is pretty wonderful, isn't it? I can hardly believe June is almost over. Love the pillow and the bunting. via

Are you enjoying July 4th so far?

I'm sure I have already posted these images---maybe last year. I found them saved to my computer with no information on the original sources....sorry. Pretty soon it will be dark and the fireworks will begin. Enjoy the display in your town. I've had a great holiday so far and hope you have too.

" 'Tis the star-spangled banner,
Oh! long may it wave,
O'er the land of the free,
And the home of the brave. "
