Perfect Outdoor Room with Fireplace

This would be my pick for the perfect outdoor room to be used virtually any time of the year. Post and Beam Shelter designed by Bosworth Hoedemaker Architects via Pinterest. Who doesn't love a big rugged picnic table? I spent my childhood sitting on these at family reunions and church picnics with no store-bought food anywhere in sight.

Greenhouse Garden Room

For the person who has everything - an old greenhouse converted into a garden room. It's beauiful, isn't it? I love the stone foundation and the storm-shutter doors. And the hydrangeas too.*

I Wouldn't Change A Thing

I wouldn't change a thing except the name on the deed and the mailbox would be my own. It is absolute perfection, isn't it?

House of Cards Sculpture

Auckland-based designer Fletcher Vaughan wanted to represent the precarious balancing act we are performing with our planet so he created this giant house of cards installation titled 'Collapse'. See additional photos and read more here. I love the symbolism.

I'm off to recycling with Webster. It's the highlight of his week. Enjoy your weekend.

Modern Farmhouse built around ruins in Scotland

In Scotland, a Modern Farmhouse Rises From Ruins. A house on the tiny Isle of Coll was built on the remains of one abandoned 150 years earlier. The home is on one of a group of islands known as the Inner Hebrides that has a population of about 200. Constructed on sand, it was abandoned in the mid-1800s when large cracks began to appear in the structure. View the New York Times Slideshow. Webster Wants This

This is perfect for both of us. Webster likes a cozy place for his bed with a back and a great view from the front and I love cubbies. A genius design: love, love, love - want, want, want.

Hand-Painted Bike Helmet

Isn't this the best idea? I love the phrenology head design on this hand-painted bicycle helmet.

Each helmet is hand-painted by Danielle Baskin in acrylics and sealed in a UV-protected oil-based varnish that repels water and prevents chipping. They range in price from 100-400 USD depending on the design and detail. If a helmet is provided 30 USD will be deducted from the total cost. Here is the website for Belle Helmets -- be sure to look at the image gallery for other amazing designs. It's so nice to see a young artist with talent and a great idea.

Stacked Wood Architecture

I have zero information on this structure but I really love it. It would have been so much fun to play around with the woodpiles until they were perfectly arranged. The sod roof is amazing too.

Disney's Little House Movie

A little house on a little hill out in the country. This is the cutest, sweetest short film and so very timely too even though it was made in 1952. I found it at the Tiny House Blog: Disney's Little House Movie "Although a cartoon, and maybe not what you expect to see here, I think it effectively demonstrates how our country's thoughts on housing have evolved through the years. It also shows why so many people today have come to realize that living more simply, in the long run, is the way to go. As most of us know, having more and bigger does not make you happier.

Thanks Disney for presenting this lesson so well for us."

Life's Little Instruction Book | Volume II, Page 37

More great and useful advice from our favorite father -- H. Jackson Brown, Jr. I found a recipe for the microwave peanut brittle and now I want some. I can't remember the last time I had tapioca pudding. We never had it at my house and I think of it as being rather institutional -- but I found a microwave recipe in case you like it.

Goodnight ~ Day is Done

The sun will be setting soon and I'll be trading my computer for the television. I do love a good reflection and this is a great one. I put some new batteries in my remote in the bedroom and what a difference. I actually called for a technician to come out to the house because of the poor performance lately of the DVR but it's all fixed now. So happy.

Outdoor Lunch Beside The Shed

It won't be long before we can dine outside and I can't wait. Even leftovers taste better when you make the effort to set up your dining table in the garden, beside the shed, on the deck or just about anywhere in the open air. via

DIY Sliding Barn Door Made from Recycled Fencing

We just can't get enough of these interior sliding barn doors, can we? I know I can't. Dana and Handy Hubby from House*Tweaking made one themselves from old fence boards. They show you how step by step in two blog posts starting with the old wood being transported home in the back of the car. The second part has line drawings with measurements. The photo above shows the end result. Very nice. Let me know if you make one. Part I and Part II and With Door Handles

My other blog posts about these sliding doors inside and outside.
