New Sofa in My Living Room

I bought a new sofa at an estate sale this weekend and my friend with a truck and another friend helped. I know it looks identical to my old sofa because the style is so similar. It is upholstered in corduroy and I love it. It's much more supportive for my back and doesn't need to be adjusted every time I get up. The back is tight and the two seat cushions are quite firm but very comfortable. I bought it on Saturday and had a realtor Open House on Sunday. This morning I bounded out of bed to start moving furniture around so there would be a clear path for the guys at 3:15. The weather was rainy but we stuck with our original plan and the heavens cooperated, thankfully. The lady who was conducting the sale said this is the way everybody buys furniture these days and I agree. I have been scouring the internet recently looking at sofas so I knew a good deal when I saw it. I can hardly believe June is almost over and the fourth of July is only a week away. Time flies in the summer, doesn't it?

Another view.

Your new sofa looks and sounds wonderful. I'm a fan of corduroy. I've also been hearing that it's difficult to purchase quality furniture lately. You did well, Rosemary!

Linda A. -- I am thrilled. My two men wrinkled the skirt. I might have to insert a piece of cardboard to straighten it but that's not the end of the world. The advantage of buying "used" furniture is you don't have to worry too much about it. I live half my daily life sitting on the cushion nearest my other sofa. I eat most of my meals there too. I think this might be an exaggeration but the house sale boss said this sofa was $7,000 when it was new. It's by a designer Edward Ferrell Ltd. I haven't had time to research but there are expensive items from this firm on 1st Dibs. Used, of course. Anyway the house mine is from was listed for just under $4 million and is Under Contract so I know all the lovely furniture in the home was expensive. xo, Rosemary

Pam, I love corduroy too in clothes and upholstery. Buying quality furniture second hand from a quality home is the only way to go these days. My sofa is "gently used" and high quality and I couldn't be more pleased. No supply chain waiting period either. Instant gratification. xo, Rosemary

Nancy ~ Thank you so much for your kind words. My cottage keeps evolving and any changes that provide more comfort make me happy. I don't think I will ever finish, at least I hope I don't. xo, Rosemary

Your new couch is beautiful and I love all the details of your living room. So fun to get new things especially when the cost is reasonable. (So little is now).
Oh I have a small sage green corduroy couch with rolled arms. I reupholstered it with the corduroy years ago and it still looks new. Love it.

Mom -- Your corduroy love seat sounds delightful and I'm sure it's lovely. Maybe corduroy is making a comeback! I hope so because it's so durable, inviting, and homey. xo, Rosemary

Rosemary, you have a front row seat to the best deals, but I need your helper with a truck. 😂 I’ve often wished to have my own little red truck for those items that pop up now and then. The new couch is super-duper lovely. Great find!

JudyMac -- You should try to find "a man with a truck" to help you move any large items you should find at estate sales. I am very fortunate to know several. One in particular has a horse trailer too for his landscaping business that came in handy when I bought something too large for his truck. The people who conduct the estate sale will definitely know someone who can help you get something too big for your car delivered. It's always worth the extra delivery fee. Making friends with someone in your condo complex who drives a big SUV is something to consider too. I am thrilled with my sofa. Getting rid of my old one was another problem. Nobody wanted it. The firm with the large garbage trucks doesn't service my street but I scheduled a one-time pickup with them and it's being picked up this morning for a very reasonable fee. Good luck with your search. xo, Rosemary

What is cozier than corduroy? Well done YOU! That sofa even looks high quality . . .what a beautiful and inviting room. I love your traditional approach and style - I still say your rooms belong in a magazine - so everybody could enjoy!
