Portrait of Young Queen Elizabeth I

Queen Elizabeth I, painted between 1558 and 1562 during the first four years of her reign, when the queen was in her mid to late twenties. This portrait just sold at auction for $158,661. Read more about the painting's history here. The Tudor period occurred between 1485 and 1603 in England and Wales and includes the Elizabethan period during the reign of Elizabeth I until 1603. I love it, don't you?

I love the fact that there were such skilled artists throughout history to show us the faces of those that lived then! what a gift they gave to the whole world! xo

Very interesting article. Thanks for including it, Rosemary! I agree with Tammy. Artists really do gift all of us when they capture faces and scenes that we can appreciate down through the ages. Lovely portrait!!

Pam and tammy j :: It's hard to imagine living in a world without instant communication. We are indeed fortunate for the artists who painted important people in history so we can see their faces and mode of dress. I am trying to imagine what Queen Elizabeth I is holding. It looks like a folded brown leather wallet but surely it is something important in her hands. Put an iPhone there and she could be taking a selfie😂 xo, Rosemary
