A Little School Fit for A King

Westacre Montessori School UK

First day of Kindergarten for Prince George.
He's only the royal family's second generation to attend a real school. His father was the first at his mother's insistence he mingle with other children. His grandfather, Prince Charles, was educated in a room at the palace with a desk, a chalkboard, and a tutor. Sounds lonely, doesn't it?

I have been reading a lot about the Montessori history and it's absolutely fascinating! Maria Montessori is my new hero.

Charles's upbringing goes a long way to explaining the man he has become. His son's had a bit more normal upbringing thanks to their mom. Now Prince George is getting a chance for an even more down to earth approach to education and a home life than either his father or grandfather experienced. I say good for the Cambridges!

George looks like he is all boy, so full of energy and a very handsome curly headed young lad too boot.

I was reading a blog written by a Montessori supporter and she talked about letting her toddler learn to use a knife by giving her a banana and a butter knife. I thought that was so clever! Encouraging children to see themselves as competent is one of the best things you can do in this world!

My grandchildren went to Montessori school; and both of them (a girl and a boy) flourished! The first time I visited ; I wondered if the children might be "drugged:! (thirty of them sitting quietly when the teacher whispered.....) Amazing! They "did their work"; and "returned things to where they belonged"!

First question I asked....."May I start school here?"! (I was about 54!!!)

It is a wonderful program; ( and I was asked to speak at "Parent's Day" the following year)....It is a wonderful and astonishing program.....and creates true individuals with organized minds; who don't have to spend half their lives looking for things they did not put back where they went!!)
!

I am proud of that boy for continuing the educational values of his mother. School with other children!!
Yay!

First, I cannot believe it's been this many years since he was a newborn. Second, I'm thrilled that the royal couple seem to be raising him as a normal child. What a cute picture.
