Amazing Built-in Bookcase

These people were so smart to put in a bookcase instead of a raised panel. It's perfect for their larger antiquarian books. It reminds me of one of my favorite quotes.

"I would be most content if my children grew up to be the kind of people who think decorating consists mostly of building enough bookshelves. Anna Quindlen"

These homeowners managed to do both!!! photo source

That quote is also a favorite of mine. My husband doesn't read, but he did manage to find space for seventeen bookcases for all of my books.

I hate to be a party pooper but that looks like really top notch wall paper and not real books. I've seen some amazing paper like that in England. Either way, it is a great look. TLW

Cute comment ahead of me! Adorable....

What I know is that that is 18th century panelling.....(also known in France....where it came from ...as boiserie)
The panelling is astonishing....and took my breath away! Rosemary....are the books wallpaper?

I absolutely couldn't tell......it just gave me another really good idea...as a decorator !!! Sheesh!!!

She is not a party pooper! I think they are the "fake books" (they do not call them that!)

They are leather-bound spines of books that mask doors and bookcases!

My Aunt married a "chap from England"; and he installed doors and cupboard doors.....that had leather book spines......to hide the doors!

That was 60 years ago! I remember thinking at 8 years old....

Yikes.....that is wonderful!

I have copied it at least 18 times!!!

There you go!!!

Do you think that was a later addition, or is this a historical room?
Beautiful.

I'm wondering if there is a twin bookshelf on the other side of the doorway.
