Henry David Thoreau Quote about Minimalism

This quote is new to me and I love it. I learned this lesson at a rather early age. I used to want "things" badly and didn't get them. Later, I found I really didn't want them after all so it was a good thing I didn't get them. I can vividly remember thinking I would die if I didn't get kissing ram gold earrings. They were expensive and I never got a pair and later on I was glad. From that time on, as a young adult, I wasn't that tempted to follow fads because I knew they were fleeting.

When I shop - which is not often, if I find something I really like I carry it thru the store. In the end I put it back for somebody else to purchase. It was mine for maybe 20 minutes. Enough time to realize I don't need it.

Sharon....I do that too. If something makes to the checkout without being put back I buy it. Otherwise I too leave it for someone else. "Our" method is so much easier than having to return an item.

Well, you are very wise indeed. I have two housefuls, a barn full, sheds full and garage full of antiques and stuff I don't want now or need and I'm pondering what to do with it all . It's very overwhelming as I want to make a move to be closer to my kids and grand kids. Friends take heed!

Welllllll, I admire you all, but I'm a "stuph" person. I rarely buy anything new, but I check out the curb and the thrifts, etc., on a regular basis. I don't always buy anything since I have plenty at home, but it's just fun to look and imagine what I could do with another person's cast off.
I think my quote would have to be:
"If a little is good, and a lot is better, then way too much is just about right". :^)
