Southern Gothic 19th Century Southern Cottage - Furlow Gatewood

Save this post to read on Sunday Morning. That's what I'm going to do, indepth. I'm rushing to watch the new season of Doctor Who that's recording right now.

-- article from Veranda
While it doesn't look it now, this splendid mid-nineteenth-century gothic house was sawn in half and trucked sixty-five miles through Georgia.

"Anywhere I travel, I'm always looking at houses," says Furlow Gatewood. "This one was going to be torn down."

When the structure arrived at his property in Americus, a passerby was heard to say: "There goes the neighborhood." Well, talk about premature judgments!

Sounds good, doesn't it?

Enjoy. xo

I bet that was a sight! Have you ever seen a house being moved? We had a house come down our road years ago-- brought in and married with another one on the same lot. A Mennonite family bought 2 houses and put them together for their large family. I went inside it once before it was finished. It was so interesting, first to see it coming down our road, then to see it being built with two houses.
I'm going to check this one out.
Enjoy the Dr. Who.

I just pinned that gorgeous house to one of my Pinterest boards called "My Dream Home." So beautiful!!! My son recently became a Dr. Who fan. I had no idea he had such a huge following!! Happy Sunday to you!!! : )

Pat...Several years a wonderful house that was scheduled for demolition was saved and in the process of being moved it got stuck in the road. I think it took days and days to take care of the problem. I really can't remember what was the matter but it was a width problem, not a height problem. Probably trees. Anyway, it finally worked and the house was successfully moved and it looks wonderful.
Dr.Who was wonderful. It's not too late to jump in. I just became a fan with #11, the last doctor. Last night was fabulous. xo, Rosemary

Wendy...You should watch it too. It's the longest running sci-fi show on TV, and after 51 years, it's fresh and new. I became a fan when Matt Smith played the last doctor. I think this new one will be fabulous too and I like that he's older, like me!

Oh my gosh Rosemary ... The furnishings are fabulous. I need to go see if you pinned them. It's amazing that all that furniture fits into what looks like a relatively small house.

Thanks as always for bringing us good stuff ... P.S. I tried Dr. Who once and it kind of freaked me out ... I'm a scaredy cat. But I did really enjoy Father Brown last night. We haven't gotten Gently George yet, but I think it's own you tube.
