Butter + Unrefined Carbs = Perfect Together

I watched a video on NBC related to the EAT BUTTER cover on Time Magazine. The doctor said to put butter on unrefined carbohydrates and you'll be fine. The danger of butter she said was putting it on unrefined carbohydrates like white bread. She said eating butter and other saturated fats like coconuts and coconut oil, butter, marbled meat, and chicken skin (yuk) will actually raise the good HDL (Good) Cholesterol but the opposite happens when those fats are combined with refined carbs. Then the LDL (bad) Cholesterol goes up.

If you put butter on a baked potato, this is a good thing.
If you put butter on a biscuit, that is a bad thing.

I was very happy to find T H E  L I S T below. Now I know the butter I love to put on my morning oatmeal is a good thing. Popcorn too. I am so happy!!! There's nothing better than a baked potato with butter either.

Sweetened applesauce
White flour and anything made with white flour; bread, muffins, bagels, cakes, cookies, pasta, biscuits, donuts, etc.
Cereals
Fries/chips
Potato chips/pretzels
Pizza
Desserts
White rice
Boxed puddings
Candy/toffee/sweets
Store bought cooked meats/cold cuts (when they have added sugars and additives)
Sausages/hot dog frankfurters (when they contain carb fillers, additives, or sugar)
Jams/jelly
Jell-O

There was an interesting article in the WSJ a few weekends ago. I found it coincidental to read the company marketing Crisco made a significant donation to the Amer. Heart Assoc. around the same time Crisco hit the store shelves and butter became a no no. I added butter to my diet several years ago. Is the food pyramid obsolete?

The image link contains that Wall Street Journal article. I eat butter too and decided long ago it had to be better than all the fake butter products that are so highly processed.
I don't know about the food pyramid. I think we all will be fine if we switch to unrefined foods when possible. That's the secret. Sugar and fake sugar made from corn are the real culprits.

Wish I could kick the sugar habit. I don't eat a lot but realize even a little bit is bad. I would also like to reduce my salt intake. I love chips and crackers.

I'm going to buy some butter today. I love baked potatoes, even eat the skin.

I've always thought/known butter wS better but having a list of how best to eat it is great! I just found out this week that I am diabetic and I'm not happy! I am glad to say my cholesterol numbers are actually pretty good . This information will be good to help prove my health - thanks for posting it - Pat

Very true. As long as it is all organic, especially if you like to eat the potato skins, which I do. I find if I stick to whole, wholesome and unrefined foods, I don't get cravings and lose weight.

If those crackers are made with white rice flour they are in the same category as white flour in the refined carb list. I like them too!

I'm sorry to hear about your diabetes. The complex carbs burn more slowly than the refined ones and don't turn to sugar the minute they you swallow them. Stick to the top list as much as you can. Cooking from scratch is a good idea too. That way you know exactly what you are eating.

Great list. I eat butter. Eat sensibly,stay active/ exercise, get a good nights sleep….that's my diet.
