If the wires were between the tv and door, on the right side as you look at the door, you'd never see them, would you? The house I grew up in had big drawers under the stairs. I know one was for wrapping paper. In a house with a basement, usually there are stairs going down instead. (No basement in my childhood home.)

I would guess the wires are in the rod that the tv/cabinet swivel on.
