Garage Sale Bowl Brings Big Bucks

You simply must read this 'hot off the press' blog post from I'm So Vintage

How much do you think this $3.00 tag sale bowl that was made in China is worth?

Can you believe it? WOW. I have to go look at the garage sale dish my cat is using.

Here is the link from the Sotheby's Catalog showing 3 different views including the bottom.

Rosemary, I just picked up on this info in the New York Post. This is the kind of thing all flea market/estate sale/yard sale junkies dream of, but unfortunately the big winners are few and far between. The "hunt" is what makes it the most fun. It sort of becomes an addiction, but you never know when you will find something you just can't do without. :-)

That is totally unbelievable! Obviously, I don't have the "eye" to see the worth something like that. Ha! Obviously and unfortunately! I would never pick up a blah little bowl such as that. Especially, as we've been taught, NOT with the Made in China label on it!!

Did you see this on tonight's NBC national news?

Nancy....

Somehow the news hour escaped me completely tonight. When I thought about watching it was already past 7:00. Boo Hoo.

What I would really like to see are the Chinese marks on the bottom of the bowl, if in fact there are any.

Thanks so much for linking to my blog. I know if I had found it I probably would have turned around and sold it for $20 and patted myself on the back for a job well done. :)

JudyMac....

I added a link for the Sotheby's catalog showing the inside of the bowl and the bottom. It's unmarked but it looks old. Happy Hunting.

Thanks for reminding me .... I hadn't checked out the Sotheby's link. I don't think that I would have thought it just an "ordinary" little bowl, but certainly would never have guessed it worth $2 million. When applying the Zoom feature, it appears there could be some type of raised mark on the bottom that is only apparent to the pencil/paper or naked fingers test.
