No Power at My Cottage

But we are okay. Tree in second photo did not damage house. My street looks like a war zone. I have been reading a lot with my miners light that fits on my forehead. I am at municipal building recharging station with wifi.

Thanks for taking the time and trouble to let us know you, your mom, and Mr. Webster are o.k. I've been checking your blog for two days hoping all was well. Lots of cleanup and loss of power but you tackled worse than that and always succeeded.

Oh Rosemary, I'm so relieved to read your post and know that you are okay. Thank you for taking the time to update us. I'm worried about your mum and how you are staying warm. I assume you are able to use your stove as I'm thinking it might be gas and I'm hoping you have wood for your fireplace and maybe an electric heater you can run off your generator. I hope you haven't run out of gas for that. How did you get to your munciple bldg?

I just got off the phone with a friend who's daughter lives on Long Island. They too have no eletricity and both of their vehicles were destroyed. They can't get any information and they are freezing. So many are in what I consider dire straights. News reports are saying people are really frustrated and I think scared and worried as to whether help will ever arrive.

I just wish there was something we could do to help other than donate to the Red Cross.

We got a lot of rain and wind but nothing like what NJ and NY experienced, rest assured you are in my thoughts and prayers.

So glad you are ok and sustained only minimal damage.

Rosemary, thank goodness you are all okay and your cottage is safe, too. I have checked periodically each day to see if there was any word. Thanks for letting your followers know you are safe.
I've often wished for one of those miner's hats so I could garden after dark!

My husband and I used our "petzl" head lamps during the freak snow storm last October...they are wonderful when the power goes out, and you can sit by the fire and still read! Our son, an Army Ranger, gave them to us! What a great idea. Lucky, this year, we didn't lose power, but we were prepared. By thecway, my husband enjoyscyour blog as much as I do. He's wondering how Webster is doings! Be well. Judy in Pearl River

Stay warm. Hope Mom is ok. We plan on getting a permanent generator as soon as things calm down. They kick in automatically (if you have a gas line to your house), and must be installed by an electrician. About $3,000 depending on house. You may wish to look into it. Not having lights is one thing, not having heat in the winter is quite another. Take care

Stay safe, Rosemary. I was lucky - only lost power for two days. My daughter is still without and she and her family are having to manage as best they can. One more week, they're saying.

Round the corner from us there's a huge tree still lying on a house. Awful.

I can see that you have moderation status on the comments (smart move) which means that somehow you or someone you trust is getting these messages approved.

Please know that I'm still praying for the three of you and hoping that your power comes back on soon. I know there are literally hundreds more folks who rely on your warm and witty blog posts to brighen their days, just like me. Keep your chin up and your toes warm!! I bet Webster is confused about the lack of warm oatmeal pots (love that he gets that treat!).

Blessings, warmth and love,
Awden
