Thistle Do

Webster and I are up way too early this morning because I have real estate appointments at my new listing. I took this thistle photo yesterday and it's looking pretty dayglo to my sleepy eyes this morning. I've always liked these giant weeds and the birds go wild over them when they go to seed. Enjoy this August weekend. I just looked at my calendar and saw that Labor day is very early this year...just three weekends away. Slow down August, I have so much to do before you are over. That's an order.

Bonnie...It's overcast and humid here but not too hot. August is simmering down for both of us.

I remember my cousin finding one of those, picking it for my grandmother and it drying as is and sitting in a vase for years. Funny the things you remember!

Nancy,,,What a brave cousin you had. Those things are full of prickers. I might cut one and dry it too. Thanks for the tip. xo, Rosemary

Ah the humble, thorny yet very beautiful thistle. Proud emblem of Scotland.

Although despised by many and declared a 'noxious weed', there are some, such as the milk thistle, that are handsome indeed and worthy of a place in any cottage garden.

And importantly, plants from this large family have great virtue and have been cultivated and used for centuries in medicinal preparations. Even today, they have much worth and efficacy in natural remedies for various ailments.

Hail Mother Nature :)

Tammy...The birds and butterflies love this weed that is towering at almost six feet tall and still growing. I have learned to embrace the thistles because I love the flowers when they open. They are welcome to join the other weeds at my cottage.

Rosemary,
I hope your RE appointments went well! I know, there is always lots to do before summer's end, if it could just cool a bit.
The thistle is beautiful and the colors are vibrant!
