Scottish Garden of Ian Hamilton Finlay

The Little Sparta Trust Website
‘Little Sparta’ a garden created by the collaboration of poet and artist, Ian Hamilton Finlay and Sue Finley, his wife. Based on the idea that a garden is a place for poetry, philosophy, and political thought, words are carved on stone and wood, etc. throughout the garden. It is thought by some to be Scotland’s greatest contemporary work of art. Located near Edinburgh in Dunsyre. source

Oh wow. People after my own heart. I love words, art and gardens so very much - my favourite pastimes, along with dogs :)

How lovely it would be to stroll around such a beautiful green haven. What a true sanctuary for the soul.

Long ago, I created some small signs written with my favourite quotes that I placed around my garden in little out of the way niches so one has to pause, read and ponder awhile.
Even the tiniest garden can have one or two :)

humbird...I hope you put Little Sparta on your list of places to visit. I had never heard of it until yesterday. It looks amazing in every respect. You need to go there.

It's a beautiful spot to spend the day while in Edinburgh.
