My Paperwhites are in Bloom

Narcissus papyraceus
I snapped this photo with my iPhone last night just before I tucked myself in to watch the first episode of Downton Abbey Season 2 on PBS last night. I was listening to NPR yesterday afternoon and they kept reminding everyone to watch DownTown Abbey. Whatever you want to call it you should definitely try to catch this 2-hour episode or watch it online before next Sunday.
I bought 15 paperwhite bulbs and started them the week before Christmas and only two are in bloom. One is in a bulb-forcing vase and the other is in soil. The one that is blooming in the clay pot with soil has another bulb beside it that has barely started to grow. I guess they have their own internal clocks. At this rate, I might have blooms in the house all the way up until Easter. This would be fine with me because they are very strongly scented. If they were all blooming at once you could easily fall over from perfume shock upon entering the room. How does your indoor garden grow?

My paperwhites are still at the store, I forgot to buy them :-(

I watched Downton last night and will probably watch it again on Thursday. I want to inspect all those lovely costumes more closely and of course the beautiful Mary and sexy, yes he is, Matthew.

I once purchased a large, ever-so-lovely hyacinth for the house, but the fragrance was so overpowering that I had to remove it.

To get the full pleasure of Downton Abbey I'm sure I should have begun watching last year. I tried last night, but much of what was going on was lost on me, having no familiarity with the characters. Plus, it takes a while to settle into the British "brogue." Years ago, I really enjoyed one of the Brit series called something like "The Duchess of Duke Street," you may remember that one. Great series!

Rosemary,
Don't you love the new season of Downton Abby? There is something so comforting about a good British series.

I'm encouraged by your late start date for paper whites. I think it would be great to have paper whites at Easter.

Gorgeous flowers, Rosemary. Just lovely. Great photo too.

I got a camera for Christmas from my daughter, so I'll be picture-taking around here once again. However, she still has to load them for me as I am hopeless.

I didn't realize DOWNTON ABBEY would be available online right away. Wow. Great news. I no longer get cable, so I usually wait a bit until my favorites show up on Netflix or wherever.

Loved Downton Abbey. PBS's Masterpiece Classic website has a fun poll charting which characters are loved or hated. I definitely don't like Vera Bates, Miss O'Brien, and Thomas. I DO love the patriarch Robert (a sensible man), Cora(Elizabeth McGovern is so elegant), and Mr. Bates and Anna.
