Book Dominos - Ireland's Library Association

This is really wonderful. Sit back and watch the books fall domino style. Here is the link in case you can't see my embedded video. Watch here. I went to the library at the end of the day yesterday and loaded up on books on tape for my mom who has macular degeneration and is legally blind. My favorite and most valued card in my wallet is my library card. I could live without a credit card but not my library card. Really!!!

I love the library too- so satisfying to not buy a book to read and to go in with an open mind to see what's new, what's just been returned and browse the shelves - oh the possibilities!

Love the vintage photo of the young girl reading a book to that big gentle elephant.

Love libraries even more, big or small they're all magical places to me. Having moved 18 times I've had many different library cards. One of my favorite libraries was in Leavenworth, Kansas. It was an old Carnegie built library and looked just like the one in the Music Man. The year after we moved from Ft. Leavenworth they moved the library out of that wonderful old building and into a larger space. Now the building is home to the Leavenworth Arts Center. "The Carnegie Arts Center of Leavenworth, Kansas is a private, non-profit, self-supporting organization. Located in its namesake city, the Center is housed in the old Leavenworth Public Library. Constructed in 1900 with funds donated by Andrew Carnegie, the two-story brick and limestone building was the first Carnegie Library in Kansas and is listed on the State and National Registers of Historic Places."

When I was a young girl our library was a bookmobile and now I have a son working in the ultimate library, The Library of Congress.

I think it is wonderful that so many books are available on tape and CD, such a great option for your mom.

I confess that I'm glad I can keep both my VISA and my library card :-)

Sorry I got a bit carried away on library reminiscences.

I was just telling my husband that whoever first thought of a library was a genius (Ben Franklin apparently started the first one here in the States). The number one best invention.

Do you know where the picture of the little girl and elephant is from? I'd like to use it but need to credit someone and can't seem to find an original source. Thanks!! :)

Same here, do you know where this photo is from? I bought a greeting card with the image a long time ago but don't remember who made it. alayna dot finley at gmail dot com.
