Mid-century Street Photographer and Nanny: Vivian Maier

Self portraits by Vivian Maier, Street Photographer and Nanny

Take a break and watch this wonderful video about a young historian who discovered the vast life work of a talented unknown photographer. Vivian Maier will enjoy posthumous fame and hopefully will be embraced by fans who want to buy prints. If you live in Chicago you will want to attend a showing of her photographs this month. I found out about all of this while visiting Piewacket.

Rosemary, I shall pass this story of a remarkable discovery along to elementary school classmates who enjoy exchanges of news via email and now are scattered all about the country. We grew up in a suburb north of Chicago and graduated from our K-8 school in 1959. I would love to see the upcoming exhibit of Vivian Maier's photographs. I'll bet my friends would, too.

Once again, one of your posts has left me speechless and amazed!
The story behind this one is truly remarkable and it gave me goosebumps watching the video.
That young man has quite a responsibility but something tells me he will handle it fine!
I love photography and this street photography is such a fascinating snapshot into another time and place.
Thanks for sharing!
